Learn About Our Eco-Friendly Initiatives
At Spring Creek, we’re surrounded by breathtaking views that we’re proud to call our backyard. We recognize the importance of protecting this land and ensuring it thrives for future generations. With over 50 BUILT GREEN® certifications for development projects, Spring Creek has long been committed to sustainable building practices.
Building a greener, healthier community has been at the heart of Spring Creek since its inception. Frank Kernick, our founder, has always prioritized environmental stewardship.

"We were one of the first to adopt geothermal technologies in Alberta to create a truly sustainable mountain community. This is a legacy for Canmore — my hometown and a place I hold dear."
— Frank Kernick, Founder, President & Developer of Spring Creek Community
Frank estimates that each building’s geothermal heating and cooling system eliminates 6,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually—a significant step toward clean energy.
Environmental Initiatives at Spring Creek
- Spring Creek Vacations is part of the sustainably developed Spring Creek community, which has earned BUILT GREEN® Community certification.
- Healthy waterways and banks are designed to meet riparian habitat standards throughout the community.
- A perimeter trail system provides public access to the creek and trails, integrating the natural world into the community.
- Bridges for pedestrian and bicycle access connect the Spring Creek community to Canmore, including schools, public transit, and healthcare, fostering a pedestrian-friendly environment.
- Green spaces in Spring Creek exceed municipal and environmental reserve standards.
- The community uses a groundwater-only irrigation system, which does not tap into the municipal water supply.
- All buildings are equipped with geothermal heating and cooling systems, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by using the Earth’s temperature to regulate building climates.
